Hi Steve,

What I do when I have a student that isn't grasping the concept of pushing air, I have them do one of several little tricks. If I have a candle handy (and a match to light it), I'll have them blow out the candle at varying lengths of distance. A piece of paper on a music stand also works... have them try to blow it off the stand. This gives them the concept of tanking up and pushing air. Obviously it doesn't do much for the finesse required, but it sure does get the "air" message across.

Sincerely,
Keith

What do you say to a middle school player who does not use any air and has no range to make him use more air? The above information addresses this but how to you bring it home to beginners and frustrated intermediate students?
